"The collaboration can pave my career path for the next 20 or 30 years"
Almost two years ago, the world's first dental-dedicated MRI scanner arrived at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health. It did so as a result of a collaboration agreement put together by Professor Rubens Spin-Neto. In a new series of videos, we aim the spotlight at six Health researchers, who have had success in external collaborations. Watch the first episode here.
It all started with three partners - Siemens, Dentsply Sirona, and Professor Rubens Spin-Neto. Each, without knowing it, wished to develop an MRI scanner dedicated to dental imaging, which could provide more precise images and eliminate the harmful radiation associated with traditional X-ray pictures.
The two industrial partners reached out to Rubens Spin-Neto and things moved quickly after that. He tied the threads into a collaboration agreement that resulted in a two-year research project, which, according to the professor, has the potential to last much longer and has laid the groundwork for a new line of research extending 20-30 years into the future, at least.
