Professor Søren Dinesen Østergaard receives this honorary award for his research aimed at improving the assessment of symptoms, side effects, and well-being in patients with mental illness. His latest research investigates whether machine learning (artificial intelligence) can be used to predict the disease trajectory for psychiatric patients – relying solely on data from electronic medical records.

According to the William Nielsen Foundation, Professor Østergaard brings the latest technology and research directly to patients in psychiatry.

"I am very pleased and proud to receive the honorary award from the William Nielsen Foundation. It is a great recognition of my work in helping patients with mental illness to achieve more targeted treatment—and, hopefully, a better and longer life," says Søren Dinesen Østergaard.
