New professor is building bridges between Aarhus and South Africa
Dan Stein from South Africa is a new honorary professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine. His main position is at the University of Cape Town, and he conducts research into anxiety and anxiety-related disorders, in particular.
Anxiety disorders are the most widespread psychiatric disorders worldwide, and have significant personal and financial costs. In his research, Dan Stein attempts to understand the underlying mechanisms of these conditions, and he hopes that an improved understanding of anxiety disorders will lead to better treatment options for a wide range of related problems, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Dan Stein holds doctoral degrees in clinical neuroscience and philosophy, and his work ranges from laboratory research to clinical and public health research. He is keen to translate knowledge from the laboratory to the clinic, and from clinical practice to the broader community. This is the same approach he now brings with him to Aarhus University, as an honorary professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine.
“I’m grateful for the fact that with the honorary professorship, Aarhus University is forging ties with Africa and the global south, and I’m very much looking forward to expanding our collaboration,” says Dan Stein.
