New advanced scan will speed up diagnosis of dementia

Professor Christoffer Laustsen aims to develop a new MRI scanning technique to make it easier and faster to diagnose patients with dementia. The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded a grant of almost DKK 3 million to the project.

Christoffer Laustsen researches and develops highly specialised MRI scanning methods, and in this project, he and his colleagues will develop and refine a new, harmless MRI scanning technique for faster diagnosis of dementia.

The hypothesis is that the advanced MRI scan will be so accurate that, in some cases, it will be possible to do without the extra scan that patients typically need in connection with diagnosis of dementia.

"We hope that, in the long term, the method will be able to help reduce waiting times for patients and shorten the path to final diagnosis. This will mean that we can allocate our resources better for the patients who need the more complex scans," says Christoffer Laustsen.

He has received DKK 2,992,920 to his research project from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
