The Symposium Preeclampsia and Long-term Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and the pre-ceding PhD Course Pregnancy & Cardiovascular Disease will take place May 27–28, 2026.
The event is intended for researchers, clinicians, PhD students, and other stakeholders with interest in maternal health, pregnancy complications, and long-term cardiovascular outcomes in women.
Aim
- To strengthen understanding of the links between complications in pregnancy - particularly preeclampsia - and long-term cardiovascular risk.
- To bring together participants from diverse disciplines and specialties to present and discuss current research on pregnancy complications and subsequent cardiovascular risk.
- To foster networking, collaboration, and professional development among early-, mid-, and late-career researchers.
Content
The first day of the event is reserved for Ph.D. students. Registration for the second day is open to all with an interest in the area. Ph.D. students are required to attend both days.
The event will cover current evidence on the associations between pregnancy complications and later cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on preeclampsia. Interactive sessions will support knowledge exchange and prepare participants for active engagement throughout the symposium.
Format
Plenary lectures, discussions, group work, exercises and presentations.
Target group
The symposium is open to researchers, clinicians, PhD students, and other professionals working within maternal health, cardiometabolic health, clinical care, public health, or related fields with an interest in preeclampsia and long-term cardiovascular disease.
All participants with projects related to preeclampsia are encouraged to prepare and bring a poster describing the aim, methods, and results/data to the symposium.
It is a prerequisite that PhD students submit an abstract when registering for the PhD course. It must be a structured abstract in English, around 250 words. Based on the submitted abstracts, the organising committee will select and invite a number of PhD students to give a short oral presentation during the symposium.
Organising committee
The symposium and PhD course are co-organised by the Danish Cardiovascular Academy, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, and Rigshospitalet.
