The programme is focused on patient service, prevention of tooth disease, assistance in connection with dental treatment hygiene in the clinic and administration. The programme is a vocational education and training programme which alternates between time at the school and internships at a dental clinic.
The dental clinical assistant must have: a general overview; psychological sense; a practical approach; and be in possession of cooperative and communicative competences.
The dental clinical assistant can find jobs in private sector dental clinics and in municipal dental services. There are opportunities for internships and jobs abroad.
Patient contact
As a dental clinical assistant, you are often the first patient person the patient meets at the dental clinic. You are the clinic's public face and play a central role in the patient's experience of the clinic's atmosphere and culture. Psychology and patient service are therefore important elements in the programme.
Dual role at the dentist's chair
When the patient is sitting in the dentist's chair, you need to be able to sense when the patient needs a comforting hand. At the same time, you need to provide effective assistance for the dentist by ensuring they always have the correct instruments and materials.
Hygiene at the clinic
It is crucial for the patient's sense of security that the clinic's hygiene is top-class. The dentist requires effective help, not least when it comes to operations. You will be specially trained to ensure optimal hygiene for operations through hygienic working techniques.
Independent patient tasks
As a dental clinical assistant, you yourself can have patients in the chair. You can provide teeth polishing and fluoride treatment, teach patients correct tooth brushing and take x-rays. You train the practical components of the tasks on dolls, or two students practice on each other.
You must also have courses such as accounting, so you can undertake the administrative functions at a dental clinic.
Teaching
Particularly in municipal dental services, the dental clinical assistant takes part in the educational work with guidance on oral hygiene for children. This takes place both in the clinic, in day care centres and in schools.
Jobs - also abroad
The dental clinical assistant programme is a vocational education and training programme which alternates between time at the school and internships in the dental clinic where you are employed. You can become a trainee in a private dental practice or municipal dental services. You also have opportunities for internships and jobs abroad.
Der er flere måder at begynde tandklinikassistentuddannelsen på. Ud over skolevejen, kan du også vælge at følge enten praktikvejen eller ny mesterlære-vejen, som elev.
Uanset hvilken vej du vælger, er længden på og indholdet af hovedforløbet den samme. Den samlede uddannelses-længde på tandklinikassistentuddannelsen er på ca. 3 år, og består af en veksel mellem praktikperioder på din elevplads (tandklinikken) og en række skoleophold inden, du når til den afsluttende skoleprøve (svendeprøve).
Hvis du er over 25 år er det vigtigt, at der bliver lavet en realkompetencevurderingen, inden der indgås en uddannelses-aftale, da du måske har nogle kompetencer og skal have merit for dele af uddannelsen, som dermed afkortes i varighed.

Efter du har bestået grundforløbet, begynder du på en ordinær elevplads på en tandklinik. Elevpladsen finder du selv i tiden på grundforløb 2. Dit hovedforløb foregår som for andre grundforløbselever.

PRAKTIKVEJEN
Er for dig, der har en underskrevet praktikaftale (elevplads) på en tandklinik, men som ikke skal være ny mesterlære-elev. Du kan arbejde på klinikken i ca. 3-6 mdr. før du starter på skolens grundforløb 2. Eller du aftaler måske med klinikken at dit ansættelsesforhold begynder, samtidig med at du starter på skolens grundforløb 2, inden du for alvor, begynder at arbejde på klinikken. Det er en aftale mellem dig og klinikken.
Når du har bestået grundforløb 2, fortsætter du på tandklinikken som elev og følger derefter hovedforløbet, som alle andre grundforløbselever.
Som praktikvejs-elev er du sikret en plads på holdet, hvis du har en underskrevet uddannelsesaftale, med en tandklinik, og bliver tilmeldt inden grundforløb 2 begynder.

NY MESTERLÆREVEJEN
Er for dig, der vil indgå i arbejdet på en tandklinik, fra den første dag i dit uddannelsesforløb. For at kunne gå denne vej skal du på forhånd have en uddannelsesaftale med en tandklinik, som er interesseret i at ansætte en ny mesterlæreelev.
Dit grundforløb 2, foregår som en praktisk oplæring på en tandklinik (evt. med nogle uddannelsesdage på skolen) og tager op til 1 år.
En ny mesterlære-forløb betyder, at du starter på klinikken, og at en kontaktlærer fra skolen (Institut for Odontologi og Oral Sundhed, Aarhus Universitet), klinikkens oplæringsansvarlige og du (eleven), i et samarbejde tilrettelægger og gennemfører din individuelle uddannelsesplan. Uddannelsesplanen sikrer, at du opnår alle de faglige mål på klinikken, som svarer til fagmålene på skolens grundforløb 2. Den praktiske oplæring afsluttes med en "grundforløbs-prøve", der foregår på klinikken. Herefter fortsætter du på hovedforløbet på samme måde som de elever, der har taget grundforløb 2 via skolevejen eller praktikvejen.

Restricted admission has been introduced to Basic Module 2 on the dental surgery assistant programme.
If you have a signed training agreement with a dental clinic, you are guaranteed admission to basic module 2 of the dental surgery assistant programme.
If you have not managed to enter into a training agreement with a dental clinic, the school has a number of quota places that students without a training agreement can apply for.
If you are searching for an internship, it is a good idea to create a profile at www.dentaljob.dk
This is free of charge and gives you a good opportunity to be found by the dental clinics that are looking for new students.
A "quota place" is a place on the second part of the basic module for students who do not already have a signed internship agreement. There are a limited number of quota places and if you do not have an internship but dream of becoming a dental surgery assistant, then you should apply for a quota place.
From among the applicants to the quota places, the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health selects the best qualified and invites them to an interview before admission. You will be invited to the interview by email, so it is important that you check your email, as you may otherwise lose the opportunity to be admitted.
The school's assessment emphasises the following:
There is no guarantee that you will get a quota place even though you apply and have been interviewed. The quota places provide admission to a twenty-week basic module, after which you have to find an internship.
